Festivals in the Town of Independence are an important piece of our heritage and of our future. We always seek to celebrate our past and where we’ve come from, while preserving that same culture for future generations to enjoy. There are amazing opportunities to come together as a community and celebrate, as well as welcome guests from down the street and all over the world.


Independence Sicilian Heritage Festival

Come celebrate Sicilian Culture right in the center of Downtown Independence! With exquisite Sicilian cuisine, activities for the whole family, and live entertainment, this is a weekend you don’t want to miss!


Christmas Parade

Every year people line the streets of Independence for the annual Christmas Parade! Beloved by many, each year there is plenty of Christmas cheer and merriment to go around!


Smokin’ on the Tracks BBQ Competition

Each spring the Independence Fire Department hosts the Smokin’ on the Tracks BBQ Competition, where people compete to see who can cook up the best barbeque in town! Enjoy live music and good food in a great community.

Independence Sicilian Heritage Museum

The Independence Italian Cultural Museum is a true cultural gem dedicated to preserving the Sicilian culture and language. With a wide variety of exhibits and events, including the annual “A Night In Little Italy”, weekly Sicilian language classes, and more, there’s always something exciting to see and do at the Museum!


Sports

Health and recreation is extremely important for the residents of Independence. We strive to always promote a healthy and active lifestyle and provide opportunities for adults and youth alike to enjoy the outdoors. Fontana Park is home to baseball, football, soccer, and softball fields for residents to enjoy. And, of course, we are always thrilled to support Independence High Magnet School’s very own Tigers!


July 4th Celebration in Festival Square

Since the Town of Independence was originally named “Uncle Sam”, Independence Day is an important celebration in the town. This year we will be celebration the July 4th Holiday in our Festival Square.
